If you are a parent navigating an autism diagnosis, you have probably heard someone mention ABA therapy. But what does that actually mean? Is it like tutoring? Behavior bootcamp? A daycare with a fancy name?
Let’s break it down clearly, honestly, and without any jargon.
What Is ABA and Why It Matters for Children with Autism
ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a research-based approach to teaching important life skills and reducing challenging behavior. That might sound clinical, but at its heart, ABA therapy is about helping your child succeed in everyday situations.
It is not a one-size-fits-all method. ABA is flexible, individualized, and based on how learning and behavior actually work. When done well, it feels natural, playful, and incredibly effective.
Is ABA Right for My Child?
ABA therapy can help with skills like communication, independence, social interaction, and emotional regulation. If your child is struggling with routines, transitions, or big emotions, we can help. And if you have worked with other providers but felt unheard, we are here to listen and support you in a different way.
What Does ABA Therapy Actually Look Like at Home?
Every child’s program is different, but here are a few common things we help with during home ABA sessions:
Potty training through structured routines and reinforcement
Getting dressed more independently using visual supports
Easing transitions like leaving the playground or turning off screens

Building communication skills through speech, gestures, or visuals
Learning to play with siblings and peers in a joyful and meaningful way
We take big goals and break them into smaller steps that your child can learn and master. Then we help your child practice those skills until they become part of everyday life.
Where Does Home ABA Therapy Happen & Why It Matters
At Cove ABA, sessions happen in your home. That means we support your child in the real-life places where routines and behavior naturally happen. This allows us to teach skills during meals, playtime, bedtime, or any part of your family’s day.
Who Is Involved?
Each program is led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. That person designs your child’s goals, trains your team, and checks in regularly. A trained behavior technician works directly with your child while the BCBA supervises and collaborates with you to make sure the program works. You are an essential part of the process. We rely on your insights and goals every step of the way.
What Makes Cove ABA Different?
Cove ABA is a small, local agency. We are not a corporate chain or a large clinic. This means:
